On July 18, 2014, President Xi Jinping sent messages of condolences to Supreme Head of State Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah of Malaysia and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands respectively over the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight.

In his message of condolences to Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, Xi Jinping said that we are shocked at the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH 17 in the eastern part of Ukraine on July 17. I, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, express deep sympathies to your country over the unfortunate event and deep condolences to all the victims on board including those from your country.

In his message of condolences to King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Xi Jinping expressed that we are shocked to learn about the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH 17 in the eastern part of Ukraine on July 17, which killed a large number of Dutch passengers. We empathize with the government and people of the Netherlands over the grief. I, myself, and on behalf of the Chinese government and people, hereby express our deep sympathy to you and profound condolences to the victims from your country in the incident.
