2014-07-23 15:58

On July 20, 2014, President Xi Jinping came to the National Pantheon of Venezuela to lay a wreath in Caracas.

In the afternoon, Xi Jinping, accompanied by President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela, arrived at the National Pantheon. The military band played China's national anthem. In the square, thousands of Venezuelan people, while waving the national flags of China and Venezuela, warmly cheered to welcome Xi Jinping.

The two heads of state walked into the hall together. The statue of Simón Bolívar, the national hero of Venezuela and the liberator of South America, stands in front of the hall. The Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela played the national anthems of both countries. Xi Jinping respectfully laid a wreath in front of the tomb of Bolivar. Xi Jinping and Maduro stepped forward together to tidy the ribbon of the wreath, paying lofty tribute to the leader of South American independence movement. Xi Jinping wrote an inscription on the distinguished guest book, "National Martyr, Eternal Glory".

Xi Jinping was awarded by Maduro the Sword of Bolivar, a symbol of freedom, sovereignty and independence. Xi Jinping stressed that the sword symbolizes the profound China-Venezuela friendship. The magnificent welcoming scene and the grand ceremony just now shows the profound feelings that President Maduro and the Venezuelan people have towards China and the Chinese people, which deeply moves me. We will make joint efforts to carry forward the cause of China-Venezuela friendship.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the above activities.
