Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok of the Netherlands

On November 23, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok of the Netherlands on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Nagoya.

Wang Yi expressed, we have just successfully concluded the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. All parties emphasized that we should adhere to multilateralism, oppose unilateralism, safeguard free trade and oppose protectionism. We also agreed to increase aid to Africa and help African countries achieve sustainable development. Under the current international situation full of uncertainties, it is timely for the G20 Foreign Ministers to maintain peace, stability and development in the world as we can make these voices and deliver positive energy to the international community.

Wang Yi said, China-Netherlands relations have maintained steady development in recent years, and the important experience can be summarized as: mutual trust, innovation, connectivity, and openness. The Chinese side is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with the Dutch side, strengthen practical cooperation, conduct human rights dialogues and exchanges on the basis of equality and mutual respect, continuously enhance mutual trust, properly handle differences and lay a solid political foundation for bilateral relations. The Netherlands is welcome to participate in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as ports and infrastructure between the two sides so as to constantly inject new impetus into the development of bilateral relations and push for sustainable and steady development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side has always firmly supported the unity and growth of the European Union (EU) and supported Europe in playing a more important role in international affairs. It is hoped that the Netherlands, as an important EU member, will play an active role in promoting the development of China-EU relations.

Stef Blok fully agreed with Wang Yi's evaluation of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting and Netherlands-China relations. Stef Blok said, today's Foreign Ministers' Meeting is a complete success. Under the current international situation, the important countries of the G20 have unanimously agreed to work together to safeguard multilateralism and free trade, which will undoubtedly send a positive signal to the world. The Dutch side highly appreciates China's development and progress. No country in the world can make such amazing achievements in poverty alleviation and development as China. China's steady development provides opportunities for the Netherlands and China to strengthen cooperation. The Dutch side believes that security issues should be dealt with separately from economic, trade and scientific and technological cooperation, and no restrictive measures should be taken against specific enterprises. The Dutch side hopes to carry out close high-level exchange of visits with the Chinese side and is ready to enhance mutual understanding and trust and push forward mutually beneficial cooperation through enhanced dialogue and exchanges.
